MANILA, Philippines — Two hundred fifty-seven households in Rapu-Rapu and 50 households in Tabaco City in Albay received solar power units, according to Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co on Saturday.
The distribution was led by Co, in partnership with the National Electrification Administration and Albay Electric Cooperative.
Co said that the solar electrification program of the government brings reliable energy sources to households. Co also said that 1,000 out of 12,000 units are allotted for Albay.

“In this project, we will put an end to the suffering of our constituents due to darkness in their residences,” Co said in a mix of Filipino and English in a prepared statement.
“The power of solar energy is changing lives. This is not just merely about electrification of their houses, but is rather about giving them dignity after living in darkness at night,” Co added.
Co said that each household received a Solar Home System equipped with solar panels, four light bulbs, cell phone charging ports, a transistor radio, battery storage, and inverter. There will be a P7 daily maintenance fee for sustainability while its installation and equipment were given for free.
“We will make sure that even the most fa-flung areas will have electricity in their houses,” Co vowed.
