 Impersonator of LTO chief arrested

MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested in Quezon City for impersonating Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza II online, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG).

In a statement on Thursday, the PNP-ACG identified the male suspect as “Jepoy,” 42.

Jepoy” was allegedly “posing as the LTO chief while demanding a total settlement of P500,000 from a bus operator for the release of impounded buses,” police said.

He was arrested in an entrapment operation in Cubao, Quezon City, last April 26, led by the PNP ACG Cyber Financial Crime Unit.

The suspect faces complaints for usurpation of authority and swindling/estafa, violations of the Revised Penal Code in connection with computer-related identity theft, and a violation of Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
