MANILA, Philippines — Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III on Thursday tagged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet reset a “great move,” as it would give him the opportunity to “regroup his team.”

Pimentel made the pronouncement after Marcos earlier called for the courtesy resignation of all his Cabinet secretaries.

“Great move by the President. Allows him to ‘regroup’ his team while sparing those to be affected from ‘intrigues,’” Pimentel said in a statement.

He then urged Marcos to recruit those with “idealism” and who would focus on the “success of his administration” as a replacement for those whose resignations he would accept.

“Best to recruit those with no ambitions to be elected in the 2028 elections,” said Pimentel.

“These non-political personalities will be more ‘objective and scientific’ in their work,” he added.

The Cabinet reset comes after the conclusion of the 2025 midterm elections.

Marcos said having the Cabinet reset would give him space to assess each department’s performance and decide who will remain, in line with his administration’s recalibrated priorities. /das
