MANILA, Philippines — Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma on Thursday said he will be submitting his resignation as head of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The submission is meant to follow President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for Cabinet secretaries to file their courtesy resignations.
“As ordered and to afford the President a free hand, I will most respectfully comply,” Laguesma said in a statement.
The cabinet member also recognized that it “is well within the plenary authority of the President to require that courtesy resignation be handed over by his Cabinet.”

Marcos made the call to “recalibrate” his administration after the results of the 2025 midterm elections came out.
He emphasized that the order “is not about personalities — it’s about performance, alignment and urgency.”
Laguesma’s appointment was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments in September 2022.
