MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian affirmed that he will immediately follow the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet secretaries.
鈥淚 serve at the pleasure of the President,鈥� he said in an X post on Thursday morning, May 22.
Gatchalian said he will 鈥渋mmediately file my courtesy resignation this morning.鈥�
Marcos ordered on Thursday the courtesy resignation of all of his Cabinet secretaries following the results of the 2025 midterm elections.
鈥淭his is not business as usual,鈥� Marcos said. 鈥淭he people have spoken, and they expect results, not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.鈥�

The President appointed Gatchalian as DSWD secretary in January 2023.
Prior to this, Gatchalian served as the representative of the 1st district of Valenzuela. /das
