PNP eyes more effective, engaging anti-drug strategy

MANILA, Philippines — The new chief of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) is working on a proposal for a new anti-drug strategy aimed at improving effectiveness and community engagement.
Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy took the reins of the PNP’s anti-drug unit last Tuesday.
“Capoy is currently finalizing his proposed anti-drug strategy, which will be submitted to the Chief PNP in the coming days,” the police force said in a statement on Wednesday.
“This strategy will aim to enhance operational effectiveness, intelligence gathering, and grassroots community engagement,” it added.
Meanwhile, the PNP reported the seizure of drugs worth P14.16 million in the past two weeks of May.
The national police force said it confiscated 2,082 grams of shabu (crystal meth) and 23 grams of marijuana.

The drugs were seized in 664 anti-illegal drug operations from May 4 to 17 and saw the arrest of 588 individuals, the PNP said.
