Dangerous heat index to hit 26 areas on May 20 – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-six areas across the country may experience scorching heat as they fall under a “dangerous” heat index on Tuesday, May 20, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Based on the latest bulletin of the state weather bureau, the highest heat index for the day, at 46°C, is forecast in Aparri, Cagayan.
Aparri and Dagupan City in Pangasinan also recorded the highest reported heat index on Monday, May 19, reaching 45°C.

Heat indices from 42°C to 51°C fall within the “danger” level category, as they may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Continued exposure to the sun may even lead to heat stroke, Pagasa warned.
According to the Department of Health, heat cramps and heat exhaustion can manifest symptoms, such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and vomiting.
Heat stroke, meanwhile, can cause “loss of consciousness, confusion, seizures, or convulsions, which can be fatal if left untreated.”
