MANILA, Philippines — Senate president Francis Escudero backed President Marcos’ sentiments, emphasizing that leaders, at present, should not be too consumed by politics when many Filipinos are struggling to make ends meet.

In a statement issued Monday evening, Escudero said he appreciates Marcos’ humility to recognize that the recent election results revealed that the masses are weary of conflict.

“The President’s message is clear: now is the time to build bridges, not burn them. We owe it to our people to rise above division and do better—together—for the sake of our nation,” said the Senate chief.

“I agree with President Bongbong Marcos’ call to set aside politics and focus on the needs of our countrymen. He is right; our country’s leaders cannot afford to be consumed by politics when so many of our countrymen struggle simply to make ends meet,” he added.

Speaking in Episode 1 of the BBM Podcast, the President himself said the people are disappointed with the government service—a realization that came after the recently concluded national and local elections. /cb
