ITCZ brings rains to Visayas, Mindanao; hot weather for Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring rains to parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, while Luzon will experience hot weather due to easterlies on Thursday, the state weather bureau said.
ITCZ is the convergence of winds from the southern and northern hemisphere, while the easterlies are warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
“From morning to noon, expect cloudy skies. While cloudy skies, frequent rains, and thunderstorms may be seen in the afternoon and evening. It will last for an hour or two,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said in the 5 a.m. weather forecast.
Estareja said that the ITCZ will result in rains in the central and southern portions of Palawan and in Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte in Visayas.
He noted that the rest of Visayas may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies.
“Before noon, there are chances of rain in Central Visayas. Negros Island Region and the rest of the Visayas has a chance of scattered rain from afternoon to evening,” Estareja added.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, and Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultran Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City will be experiencing rains Thursday morning.
A huge portion of Mindanao will also see rains due to the ITCZ. The rest of the Mindanao will experience light to moderate with light to moderate rains at times.

Possible formation of LPA
Estareja also raised the possibility of formation of a low-pressure area within the next four days. He said that the LPA may form inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility, located east of Mindanao.
“The LPA may move upward and bring rains in Eastern Visayas and Caraga region. And there may be a scenario that it will cross Visayas and Mimaropa,” Estareja said.
The easterlies will continue to bring hot weather in most parts of the country. /das/abc
