MANILA, Philippines — A solo parent advocate, who once represented the Solo Parents party-list in its legal fight against mockery and discrimination towards single parents, died a few days before Mother’s Day.
In a press release on Sunday, which happens to be Mother’s Day, the party-list announced the death of Dalia Sevilla, 58, whom it said helped in the fight to seek the disqualification of Silang, Cavite mayoral candidate Kevin Anarna. Anarma had made an alleged discriminatory comment on solo parents during a campaign rally.

Sevilla, a solo parent, was killed in a vehicular accident on May 8.
“She [Sevilla] helped us give voice to the voiceless. She brought her lived experience as a solo mother to the forefront of public service,” said Dr. Roselle Teodosio, the party-list’s spokesperson.
“Dalia’s passing is a tragedy we feel deeply, but her legacy will continue to inspire us,” Teodosio added.
As the country prepares for the national and local elections on Monday, the Solo Parents Partylist said they will carry on Sevilla’s fight for solo parents getting stronger support systems, having accessible government benefits and services, and meaningful representation in Congress.
