MANILA, Philippines — Veterans Bank assured its clients that its Taguig City branch has resumed normal operations after an attempted robbery last Monday.

The bank reported that no cash was taken after authorities recovered P7.4 million and arrested one suspect.

The bank also shared that no customer or staff was harmed as the attempted robbery occurred shortly before the bank’s closing.

“We also wish to assure our clients that the Taguig Branch has resumed normal operations and remains fully secure and ready to serve. Banking services across all our branches continue without disruption,” the bank said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the Southern Police District (SPD) on Monday, the 54-year-old male identified suspect named “Bernard” entered the establishment posing as a regular client. He then used the bank’s restroom “after gaining the trust of the staff,” and emerged with a loaded 9 mm. Pistol.

SPD added that despite the tension, the bank’s personnel discreetly activated the “silent alarm,” prompting the Taguig City police to arrive in the area within minutes.

“Our existing security systems were instrumental in alerting law enforcement and enabling their timely intervention,” the bank added.

The bank shared that it is conducting a comprehensive review of its protocols and further investing in security enhancements. It also reaffirmed its commitment to safety and security for clients and staff.

Meanwhile, the SPD noted that the suspect is set to face charges for robbery (hold up), serious illegal detention, and violation of the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. /MR
