MANILA, Philippines — Five suspects were arrested following a shooting incident that killed a second-hand vehicle seller in Parañaque City late Sunday evening.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said in a press conference at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City on Tuesday that the victim was selling a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and arranging a meet-up with a supposed buyer.
The victim was identified as “Noely,” a 32-year-old male.
During the meet-up on Sunday late evening along West Service Road in Barangay Marcelo Green in Parañaque City, two of the suspects appeared and introduced themselves as mechanics tasked with inspecting and test-driving the SUV, Aberin said.
The victim had a companion during the meet-up, who accompanied one of the suspects in test-driving the SUV, according to Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Joseph Arguelles in the same press conference.
It was after the test drive that the shooting incident occurred, the SPD director said.
`Without provocation’
“Without any provocation or anything, when they got out of the car… they took the gun and shot the victim twice and told our witness to run already,” Arguelles said in Filipino.
The two suspects fled, one in the SUV and the other on a motorcycle, Aberin added.

Closed circuit television camera (CCTV) backtracking led police to find both the SUV and the motorcycle in a subdivision in Barangay Don Bosco, Parañaque, city police chief Col. Melvin Montante said at the same press conference.
Montante added that, in the area where police recovered the motorcycle, authorities found three male individuals allegedly using illegal drugs.
According to Montante, the three men then identified the two suspects, who happened to reside in the same barangay, leading to their arrest on Monday late evening.
From all five suspects, authorities confiscated a caliber .45 pistol, a 9mm pistol and 15 grams of suspected shabu (crystal meth), according to the NCRPO in a statement also on Tuesday.

When asked about the suspects’ motive, Arguelles answered, “This is a case of carjacking in the guise that they will pretend to be a buyer but actually they’re after the vehicle being sold.”
Further, Aberin said in Filipino: “This group is gun-for-hire. They admit they’ve had previous participation where they were the ones really involved. Accordingly, the hitman has a warrant. He had an involvement in a 2016 and a 2017 murder case in Parañaque.”
The suspects refused to give a statement when the NCRPO presented them to the media in Camp Bagong Diwa after the press conference.
Aberin detailed that the two initial suspects face complaints for murder, carnapping, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violations of the gun ban and the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Meanwhile, the three other suspects arrested face separate complaints for allegedly using illegal drugs, Aberin added.
