LRT-1: Labor Day treat drew 460,000 riders from April 30 to May 3
MANILA, Philippines — A daily average of about 460,000 passengers got free rides on the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) from April 30 to May 3, 2025 (Wednesday to Saturday).
The initiative was held as part of the Labor Day celebrations, as announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on April 29.

According to the LRT-1’s operator, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), it worked in close coordination with the Department of Transportation and the Light Rail Transit Authority on this activity.
“We are proud to have supported and implemented this initiative and to have served a large number of LRT-1 passengers during the free ride period from April 30 to May 3,” LRMC President Enrico Benipayo said in a statement.
“This initiative is a testament to the collaboration between the private and the public sectors,” he noted.
“Our strong partnership with the government is fundamental to our commitment to enhancing the commuting experience and providing greater convenience to the Filipino people,” he added.
