MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed more than 60,000 personnel for security at Labor Day events.
This is according to a tally as of May 1 noon from PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo who gave the number in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Thursday.
Fajardo said the police are was monitoring 26 assemblies across the country, with 11 of them taking place in Calabarzon; seven in Metro Manila; and three in Central Visayas.
“So far, the ongoing rallies relating to the Labor Day celebration are relatively peaceful,” she observed.
Of the police officers deployed for Labor Day, over 11,000 personnel were assigned in Metro Manila.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo provided the information to ɫTV in a message also on Thursday morning.
Among the personnel deployed by the NCRPO, 1,202 officers were assigned for mobile patrol; 1,138 officers for anti-criminality operations; and 1,006 officers for civil disturbance management.

In a statement on Thursday, the PNP expressed support for the observance of Labor Day.
It said: “Sa kabila ng iba’t ibang hamon, nananatiling matatag ang ating mga manggagawa. Sila ang pundasyon ng ating lipunan.”
(In spite of many different challenges, our workers remain strong. They are the foundation of our society.)
“Kami rin ay mga lingkod bayan, mga manggagawang handang magsakripisyo para sa kapayapaan at kaayusan,” the national police added.
