MANILA, Philippines — The government has standby funds to assist those affected by the recent eruption of Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Wednesday.

“Nagbigay ng report ang DSWD [Department of Social Welfare and Development] at may standby funds po tayo and prepositioned relief stock tayo,” Castro said.

(The DSWD made a report, and we have standby funds and prepositioned relief supplies.)

Castro added that Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited and assessed the areas affected by the eruption.

“At maliban po diyan ay… si [Office of Civil Defense Bicol] Director Claudio Yucot po ay sinecure [secured] as requested by the provincial government, ang air assets or aerial reconnaissance and sinabi rin po na nagbisita na po sila sa mga municipalities sa Sorsogon,” she also said.

Bulusan Volcano erupted at 7:43 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

It also erupted at 4:36 a.m. on Monday, producing a bent plume that rose 4,500 meters above the crater. The volcano remains under Alert Level 1 as of posting time.
