MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte said on Tuesday that her lawyers are confident that she will win her impeachment trial before the Senate.
Duterte made the pronouncement when asked about her recent endorsement of senatorial candidates and allegations that it was an attempt to gain allies in the Senate ahead of her impeachment trial.
“Ang aking impeachment, sinasabi ng mga lawyer, they are more than confident na mananalo sila sa impeachment,” Duterte said in a chance interview in Cebu.

“Ako naman (For me), I am most confident with the lawyers working on my impeachment case,” she added.
The vice president said she and her lawyers met right after she went home from The Hague, Netherlands, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is currently detained, to tackle her impeachment case.
“Sinabi nila (they told me), they are more than confident in winning the impeachment trial,” she said.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5, with 215 House members voting in favor of her removal from office.
With the trial now pending before the upper chamber of Congress, Senate President Francis Escudero earlier said the verdict is more likely to be announced in October 2025.

Should she be impeached, Duterte would be permanently barred from public office, including the presidency in the 2028 presidential elections.
The vice president herself submitted a petition blocking the impeachment move before the Supreme Court on Feb. 18.
