MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday called on motorists to exercise greater discipline and patience following the road rage cases in recent months.
In his vlog posted on his social media accounts, Marcos said a driver’s license is a privilege, not a symbol of the right to act like a tough guy on the road.

“We’ve all become so aggressive. Everyone acts tough. What kind of culture is this, this culture of being aggressive on the road? Where did we get this from? What’s happening to us that confrontations and violence like these seem so normal now?” he said in Filipino.
“Everything can be discussed calmly and peacefully. We and our families stand to lose from the possible consequences if we let ourselves be consumed by anger, even for just a moment,” he added.

The president also acknowledged that traffic and undisciplined drivers can be frustrating but he urged the public to stay calm.
“Just be patient. Let it go. What do we really lose? One second, five seconds, 20 seconds? Let’s give way and not engage,” he said.
Marcos also encouraged bystanders to help defuse tensions.
“The other people around, too, let’s step in and break things up instead of recording videos. Let’s treat it as our responsibility to help maintain peace in our surroundings,” he said.
Last March 30, a motorist opened fire in Antipolo City, hitting several people, including his wife. One of the victims died a few days after the attack.
