DSWD: Over P132-M aid extended to Kanlaon Volcano eruption victims

MANILA, Philippines — Over P132 million in aid so far has been extended to victims of the Kanlaon Volcano eruption, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Thursday.
The volcano on Negros Island most recently erupted on Tuesday morning.
“As of today (April 10), we’ve given out over P132 million worth of humanitarian assistance,” DSWD spokesperson Asst. Sec. Irene Dumlao said in Filipino at an interview with Radyo 630 on Thursday.
“This consists of food packs, non-food items, and financial assistance we’ve handed out. We continue to augment the resources of local government units,” she added.

The DSWD estimated on Wednesday that 48,000 individuals were affected by the eruption.
Dumlao detailed that over 88,000 family food packs were ready in Negros Occidental, over 58,000 in Negros Oriental, and over 6,000 in Siquijor.
“Based on our coordination meeting with our field offices, there have not been any reported challenges in terms of our coordination and augmentation support to our local government units,” she added.

The DSWD on Wednesday called for volunteers to assist in relief operations at the National Resource Operations Center at Chapel Road in Barangay 195, Pasay City.
