Private workers on April 9 entitled to double pay — DOLE

MANILA, Philippines — Private employees rendering work on April 9 or the Day of Valor are entitled to double pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The DOLE made this reminder on Tuesday as April 9 falls as a regular holiday. This is in line with the Labor Advisory No. 04, series of 2025, signed by Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesman.

“For work done during the regular holiday, the employer shall pay a total of 200 percent of the employee’s wage for that day for the first eight hours,” the advisory, which was also posted on DOLE’s official Facebook, read.
Meanwhile, employees who will not report to work on April 9 will be entitled to 100 percent of their wage for that day “provided that the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.”
The DOLE also issued the following pay guidelines on the basis of a regular holiday:

Where the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, he or she shall be entitled to holiday pay if the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day.
For work done in excess of eight hours, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day.
For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the basic wage of 200%.
For work done in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on the said day.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously declared April 1 (Eid’l Fitr); April 9 (Day of Valor); April 17 (Maundy Thursday); and April 18 (Good Friday) as regular holidays while April 19 (Black Saturday) is announced as a special non-working holiday.
