MANILA, Philippines —The government will sustain efforts to provide job opportunities for Filipinos, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing on Tuesday.

The assurance was given after a Philippine Statistics Authority report revealed that the number of unemployed Filipinos went down to 1.94 million in February from 2.16 million in January.

“Good news po iyan. Kung tumaas po ang employment rate, ibig pong sabihin ay maganda po ang nagiging palakad ng ating gobyerno para po maibsan naman din po ang kahirapan ng ilan po sa atin dahil kapag po talagang mahihirapang kumuha ng trabaho, mahihirapan din po silang makakuha ng income,”

(That’s good news. If the employment rate increases, it means that the government is doing well in managing things to help ease the poverty experienced by some because when it’s really hard to find a job, it also becomes hard for people to earn an income.)

“So, itutuloy-tuloy po natin iyan dahil mayroon din naman po tayong programa para sa mga hiring ng mga employees, ng ating mga kababayan especially mayroon pong programa para po doon sa mga 4Ps [Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program] beneficiaries na makakuha ng on-the-spot hiring,” she added.

(So, we will continue with that because we also have programs for hiring employees. In particular, there’s a program for 4Ps [Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program] beneficiaries to help them get hired on the spot.)

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. previously bared plans to conduct monthly job fairs nationwide.
