Heat in Zambales, Occ Mindoro might reach ‘dangerous’ 42°C Friday, March 7

The heat index in Dagupan, Pangasinan is forecast to peak at 42 degrees Celsius (°C) on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

MANILA, Philippines — Two areas in Luzon are forecast to experience a 42-degree Celsius (°C) heat index on Friday (March 7), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa’s monitoring stations in Iba, Zambales, and San Jose, Occidental Mindor,o predict the highest heat index of 42°C in these areas.

These places may fall under the “danger” category, which can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion, the state weather bureau warned.

Meanwhile, 61 areas nationwide are predicted to register heat indices between 33°C and 41°C, placing them under the “extreme caution” category.

The Department of Health (DOH) has warned the public about the risks of heat-related illnesses as heat index levels continue to rise.

To prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke, the DOH advised the following actions:

  • Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water
  • Avoiding iced tea, soda, coffee and alcoholic beverages
  • Limiting outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Using sun protection such as hats, umbrellas and sunscreen
