MANILA, Philippines 鈥� The number of road accidents from December 22, 2024 to January 2 this year has climbed to 577, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The agency on Thursday said the figure was 33.5 percent higher compared to聽432 cases recorded during the聽same period in聽2024.
In its report, the DOH said the cases involved 500 individuals who did not use safety accessories while driving, 415 motorcycle accidents, and 108 individuals who were reportedly drunk.

The number of people who died due to the accidents remained at six, four of them due to motorcycle accidents.
The DOH reminded motorists of the following to avoid road accidents:
- Avoid driving when tired or drunk because it can affect coordination, concentration, and quick response to road situations
- Exercise wearing helmets for motorcycles and seat belts for cars
- Follow the speed limit set and road signs to ensure safe travel and avoid accidents
- Ensure having seven to eight hours of sleep before traveling to stay alert while driving
- Avoid using phones and other distractions when driving
- Immediately call 911 or 1555 DOH hotlines in case of emergency
