Some local government units have suspended the face-to-face classes for Thursday, May 8 due to extreme heat.

MANILA, Philippines — Some local government units have suspended the face-to-face classes for Thursday, May 8 due to extreme heat.

In separate advisories, the following areas announced the suspension of face-to-face classes and the shift to online or asynchronous mode:

  • Pasay City – all level (public and private)
  • Angeles City, Pampanga – all level (public and private)
  • Santa Rosa, Laguna – elementary to high school, public (until May 10)
  • Umingan, Pangasinan – afternoon classes for pre-school to senior high school, public (until May 31)

Based on the state weather bureau’s computed heat index as of 5 p.m., the heat index in Metro Manila reached a sweltering 42 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius fall under the “danger” category of heat indices.

This could cause heat cramps, exhaustion, and even heat stroke with drawn-out exposure.
