DOLE approves wage hike for kasambahays in Central Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Thursday that it approved a wage increase for “kasambahays” or domestic workers in Central Luzon.

This came after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board issued a wage order on March 4 that raises the wages of kasambahays in cities and first-class municipalities by P1,000, and P1,500 for other municipalities.

As a result, the new wages of kasambahays will be increased to P6,000.

The DOLE added in its announcement that the wage order was affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission, which will be subsequently published on March 16.

The order will then take effect on April 1.

DOLE likewise said that the increase will benefit 126,762 domestic workers in the region, with 11,595 of the said number in a live-in arrangement.
