MANILA, Philippines 鈥 Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday dedicated the celebration of National Heroes Day to the heroes who fought for the country鈥檚 independence and democracy, also hailing different kinds of workers, from government personnel and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to farmers and fisherfolk.
鈥淭oday, we remember the bravery, courage, and patriotism of our heroes who fought for our independence, liberty, democracy, sovereignty, our country, our people. To them, we owe our freedom,鈥 Romualdez said in a statement.
The speaker then hailed national leaders, government workers, and uniformed personnel for keeping the peace and delivering public services.
He also noted the sacrifices of OFWs, whom he called 鈥渕odern-day heroes,鈥 for their commitment to providing for their loved ones and contributing to the country鈥檚 economy.
The speaker also saluted women who tend families and households, calling them the 鈥済reatest heroes.鈥
鈥淲e salute every Filipino who does his share in building our nation. Most of all, we honor our women who tend to our families and households. They are our greatest heroes,鈥 he said.
Furthermore, Romualdez also lauded laborers for driving economic growth and farmers and fisherfolk for providing the country鈥檚 food.
鈥淲e salute our employers, our entrepreneurs 鈥 big, small, medium, micro 鈥 who serve as drivers of economic growth,鈥 Romualdez said.
鈥淲e acknowledge as well the arduous daily toil of our farmers and fisherfolk in support of their loved ones and country鈥檚 food requirements. They, too, are our heroes,鈥 he added.
