MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday mourned the death of Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan “Toots Ople”.
Duterte, the concurrent Department of Education Secretary, called her fellow Cabinet member a patriot who was dedicated to the welfare of migrant workers.
“The country has lost a real patriot whose life was dedicated to the welfare and protection of the fundamental rights of migrant Filipino workers and their families. She was a beacon of hope and a source of strength for migrant workers caught in distressing situations while working abroad,” said Duterte in a statement.
Duterte said that Ople leaves a legacy that the country will cherish.
“She will be greatly missed. We grieve with her loved ones and pray that they may find comfort in the special moments they shared together,” said Duterte.
Ople died on Tuesday afternoon.
