MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the country may expect up to 14 tropical cyclones until the end of this year.

In a press conference, the chief of Pagasa鈥檚 climate monitoring and prediction section said two to four tropical cyclones are expected this July, while two to three tropical cyclones are possible next month.

She also said that for September, Pagasa is seeing two to three tropical cyclones; for October, two to three; for November, one to two; for December, one to two.

鈥淎round 10 to 14 tropical cyclones are expected [to occur in the country],鈥 said Pagasa鈥檚 climate monitoring and prediction section chief Ana Liza Solis.

Solis disclosed this information as the country faces El Ni帽o, which is forecast to intensify in the coming months.

Pagasa earlier said that one of the expected effects of the聽El Ni帽o phenomenon is below-normal rainfall.

Since January, three tropical cyclones have entered the Philippine area of responsibility 鈥 their local names were Amang, Betty, and Chedeng.
