In Batangas City, two students have been arrested for "smoking pot."

LUCENA CITY — A construction worker died, and another was injured Monday after dislodged soil buried them in a vacant lot where they were digging in Mataas na Kahoy town in Batangas province..

The Batangas police said in a report Tuesday, Feb. 7, that Elmerto Tiosan and Mario Valencia, both construction workers, were digging around 3:30 p.m. for a drainage system in a vacant lot in Barangay Bubuyan.

Suddenly, the upper portion of the land at their work area collapsed, and the dislodged soil buried both workers.

Rescuers found Tiosan’s body under the mountain of soil, while Valencia survived and taken to the San Jose District Hospital in neighboring San Jose town.

The police were conducting further investigation.
