A day before voter registration ends, number breaches past 2 million 鈥� Comelec
MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said it so far recorded 2,085,142 voter registrations as of Jan. 28, ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) elections.

The latest data came just a day before the end of the poll body’s latest leg of voter registration on Jan. 31.
Comelec reported 2,076,479 regular registrations from Dec. 12 to Jan. 28.
From Dec. 17 to Jan. 27, 8,651 Comelec Register Anywhere Program (RAP) registrations were logged.
The said project allows Filipinos to register in places other than their residence.

Of the total, 1,248,607 were newly-registered voters, while the rest were either transfers in location, reactivation, or reinstatement of name in the voters’ list.
To recall, Comelec previously noted the lack of voter registrations, prompting it to launch voter education seminars to boost the number of registered voters nationwide, prioritizing far-flung areas with low voter turnout.
