2 dead in Batangas road mishaps

LUCENA CITY — A motorcyclist and a pedestrian died on Tuesday and Wednesday in two separate road accidents in Batangas province.

Sto. Tomas City police reported that motorcyclist Renier Almarez, 22, bumped around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday the rear portion of a truck tractor driven by Michael Gardose and was running ahead of him along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Rafael.

Almarez suffered grave injuries and died while being taken to the Laurel District Hospital in the town proper.

The police said the concerned parties were open to amicable settlement.

In Malvar town, the police reported that security guards Karissa Bajar, 33, and Gemmalyn Cabatingan, 29, were hit by a still unidentified vehicle while crossing the road at 10:20 p.m. in Barangay San Fernando.

The vehicle sped off and left the victims, who suffered injures. They were taken to Daniel Mercado Medical Center, but Bajar died along the way.

The police are conducting an investigation to identify the suspect’s vehicle.
