Mactan Cebu Int’l Airport opens for daytime flights only

MANILA, Philippines — Flights to and from the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) resumed Tuesday although only for daytime arrivals and departures, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
In a statement, the DOTr said MCIA’s runway has been opened from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate scheduled daytime flights.
“Passengers are strongly advised to coordinate with their airlines for the status of their flights before proceeding to the airport,” it said.
Flight operations were suspended in MCIA after a Korean Air plane overshot the runway on Sunday evening (October 23).

The aircraft was trying to land when it reportedly missed the airstrip amid inclement weather. A total of 162 passengers and 11 crew members disembarked from the plane through the emergency slides.
Around 50 domestic flights were canceled due to the incident.
On Monday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the MCIA Authority allowed the partial resumption of flights at the airport – from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a Jeju Air flight (JJA2406) bound for Incheon. — Kristelle Anne Razon, trainee
