2 NPA members yield in Leyte
TACLOBAN CITY––Two New People’s Army (NPA) members surrendered Friday, Oct. 1, to the 14th Infantry Battalion based in Leyte.
“Grace,” and her husband “Bart,” also handed over to authorities a caliber 38 revolver, 13 pieces of live ammunition, and two 5.56 mm ammunition, to Lt Col. Ernesto de la Rosa, Jr., the commanding officer of the 14th Infantry Battalion based in Mahaplag town, Leyte.
The report of the 14th IB said the couple operated in the western part of Leyte but left for Metro Manila in 2002.
Grace allegedly helped locate rebels from Leyte living in Metro-Manila and arranging meeting places for party leaders and cadres in the capital city and Rizal province.
She said she also helped send press releases to media outlets in Metro Manila. Grace also actively joined in several protest rallies in different parts of Luzon.
Her son, also a rebel, but later surrendered to the government, convinced the couple to return to Leyte and surrender to authorities.
