Boy dead, 8 kids hurt as truck rams houses in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY –– An 8-year-old boy died, and eight other children were injured after a wayward trailer truck rammed two residential houses and a tricycle in Gumaca town in Quezon province on Friday afternoon.

A report from the Quezon police office, said the Manila-bound truck driven by Edmar Nocos was negotiating the Maharlika highway when the vehicle lost its brakes.

The driver lost control of the truck and slammed into two residential houses and a parked tricycle on the side of the road in Barangay Inaclagan at 4:35 p.m.

At least nine persons, aged 6 to 14, were injured and taken to the RAKKK Prophet Medical Center at the town center, but one of them, Luiz Ariola, 7, died along the way.

The truck driver was detained at the town police jail.
