MMDA: Motorists joining #InMyFeelings dance challenge face P2,500 fine

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned on Tuesday that motorists who would try the #InMyFeelings dance challenge would be fined for violating traffic rules.

MMDA Commander for Task Force Special Operations Commander Bong Nebrija said they would impose a fine of at least P2,500 against anyone who would be caught by traffic enforcers doing the dance challenge.

鈥淲e have the anti-distracted driving law and we also have reckless driving as part of our violations, and taking the challenge itself will fall under those violations,鈥 Nebrija said in a phone interview.

According to Nebrija, violators of the reckless driving rule will not only be fined, their license will also be confiscated and they will be made to undergo a driving seminar.

Meanwhile, citizens found violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act or Republic Act 10913 would have to pay P5,000 for the first offense, P10,000 for the second offense, and P15,000 for the third offense.

Nebrija explained that taking the challenge itself will not only endanger the driver鈥檚 life but also the life of other motorists.

Nebrija emphasized that the agency is not preventing people from participating in the dance challenge, but they should mind their safety as well as other people鈥檚 safety.

鈥淲ala tayong batas na bawal ang gumawa ng dance challenge. So ang sa amin lang, ilagay nila sa tamang lugar na hindi sila makakadisgrasysa o hindi sila madidisgrasya (It is not illegal to participate in this dance challenge but what we are asking the public is to put this in the right perspective and not compromise other people鈥檚 safety,鈥 he added.

People joining the #InMyFeelings challenge get out of their cars while on a busy road and dance to the tune popularized by Drake. /ee
